Juan Enrique: Happily Ever After

Juan Enrique, like the other 7 stallions trapped with him in a Colorado barn, spent most of his young 5 year-old life in a small, filthy unventilated brick stall on urine and filth and fed poor quality feed or sometimes nothing.  His water was filthy or absent entirely.  Juan Enrique has just a wonderful spirit as the photos below show even trapped in the filth he lived in last April 2007 when Rita Anderson first saw him.

Juan's life changed when Rita and her Colorado colleagues rescued him and the Conquistador Program adopted him to one of our very favorite horse people, Dick Chapman and his wife Elaine, and made arrangements for Juan to come to Dick in Arizona.  Dick is the quintessential horseman and we knew he was the perfect friend for Juan Enrique.  On Valentine's day 2008, we visited Dick, Elaine and Juan.  We were happy beyond words to see what we knew would happen, Juan Enrique fully recovered physically and a happy, happy and confident horse with his best friend Dick.  See Juan and Dick below on February 14, 2008, 9 months after his rescue:
