Rescued Peruvian Horses Strut their Stuff at Double Pointed Championship Show in LA Equestrian Center

(Phoenix, AZ) The Conquistador Equine Rescue and Advocacy Program announced today that once again, Peruvian horses rescued from starvation, neglect and cruelty soared at a major A rated, NAPHA sanctioned horse show under the tutelage of world renown Peruvian Paso chalan, Juan Garayar, and ridden by Garayar and his son, Juan Garayar Junior.

Champion Rayo de Olympico CdeA (Conquistador) a multiple champion and blue ribbon winner in this region, showed his stuff once again at the Burbank Show.  The feisty Peruvian gelding was in two classes and took home four ribbons including a second place in the Crystal breeding class.  Conquistador had not been shown for two years, had only a 16 year old young woman, Emily Nelson,  to condition him for  7 weeks prior to the show.  Nelson had never ridden a Peruvian Paso before but had much experience with the reining patterns and the two developed an instant bond.  To add to the amazing story, Conquistador had to be hauled on Wednesday prior to the show on Friday to Garayar’s facility in Paso Robles, CA for a 17 hour trip. Rayo de Olympico (Conquistador) then endured another 6 hour trailer trip on Thursday from Paso Robles to the LA Equestrian Center located in Burbank.

Despite these obstacles, Conquistador did the pattern class without a mistake earning two ribbons but the big excitement came when the indomitable gelding took a second place ribbon in the Crystal breeding class ridden for the first time by Juan Garayar, Jr. The "Man" and Juan Jr. showed once again that a horse rescued from starvation, neglect and cruelty can soar even blind in one eye, with multiple obstacles, and that the Peruvian Paso and horses rescued from severe circumstances can and do recover and get the job done!!  Beautiful palomino Peruvian Paso mare Hija de Sol Y Luna, rescued at four months old with Conquistador also once again showed the great heart of the Peruvian horse and the rescued horse. Left to die at four months old. Like Conquistador, Sol Y Luna has become a consistent blue ribbon winner in Arizona, a reserve champion in California, and among stiff competition with her trainer, mentor and friend, Juan Garayar, Sol Y Luna took a second place in halter at the recent Burbank show.

More joy and excitement came when gorgeous stallion, S.H. Burlon, rescued by the Conquistador Program from severe neglect and starvation in Colorado, son of the famous multiple champion stallion A.E.V. Oro Negro, grandson of Peruvian multiple champion stallion A.E.V. Regional and great grandson of the great Peruvian sire Sol De Oro (V) was reunited with the family of his sire, Lisa and Kim Jaserie. Much joy and happiness followed as stories of the great southern bloodlines carried by Burlon from his sire Oro Negro were shared by the Jaseries with Burlon’s adoptive family, Bill and Pat Haight. Kim Jaserie, an accomplished equine photographer, who has twice photographed the Peruvian national championships, shared her photos of Burlon and his sire with the Haights. One photo has been featured on the international website of the Peruvian horse, Peruvianhorseworld.com. Dr. Haight said that once again, these horses show that rescued horses are no different than any other horse. They are simply horses who ended up in bad circumstances and with a little help, can soar. The Conquistador Program currently is looking for a forever home for another beautiful Peruvian Paso stallion, M.M. Machito. Machito, a magnificent black 19 year old Peruvian stallion is the grandson of the great Peruvian Paso champion Fascinacion. For information on adopting Machito, contact the Conquistador Program. Adoptive families will be screened carefully.
